The Village Yeronga city view August 2025

It’s no surprise that Queensland, and Brisbane specifically, are top locations in Australia for retirees seeking a relaxed yet vibrant and connected lifestyle. With its subtropical climate, accessibility to health facilities, and stunning surroundings, Brisbane offers the perfect balance of comfort, convenience, and community for those enjoying their later years.

It’s because of all these reasons and more that we chose the wider Brisbane region as the home of The Village Retirement Group. The inner city of Brisbane plays host to not one, not two, but three of our communities, each thoughtfully designed to provide our residents with a comfortable home and plenty of opportunities to thrive and enjoy life to the fullest in retirement.

But how do these communities differ, and how can you decide which location is the right fit for yourself or a loved one? In this article, we’ll take a closer look at our villages in Coorparoo, Yeronga, and Taigum, exploring their amenities, access to essential services, and the lifestyle each community offers, helping you make an informed decision about the best place to enjoy retirement.

Why Retire in Brisbane?

You may be wondering why so many people choose to spend their golden years in Brisbane. Well, let us break down that barrier for you. In Brisbane, you’ll find:

  • Access to high-quality health services, including major hospitals and specialist clinics.
  • An easy-to-use public transport system that makes it easy to get around, even if you don’t drive.
  • A subtropical climate so that you can enjoy warm weather, outdoor activities, and a relaxed lifestyle year-round.
  • A vibrant dining and cultural scene, so you will never be short of things to do
  • A strong sense of community, so you can enjoy all the benefits of city living while still feeling connected and supported in a welcoming neighbourhood.

Amenities, Activities, & Accommodation

The goal of each of our villages is to provide residents with a fulfilling community in which to spend their retirement. It is for this reason that each of our villages has an extensive array of modern amenities and activities, many of which are the same, to ensure every resident has the opportunity to stay active, social, and engaged.

Our Coorparoo, Yeronga, and Taigum communities share the following:

  • Heated swimming pool
  • Lawn bowls (Bocce, at Taigum)
  • Gym
  • Rooms for visiting health professionals
  • Yoga/Tai Chi
  • Resident physiotherapist
  • Craft room & billiards tables
  • Hair/beauty salon
  • Library
  • Café/bar & restaurant  type facilities on site
  • BBQ areas
  • Community garden

It is worth noting that Taigum differs from Coorparoo and Yeronga in terms of its Men’s Shed spaces, dog parks, and chapel facilities, but, other than this, the amenities and activities in these three communities are largely the same.

Coorparoo

At The Village Coorparoo, the accommodation is designed for those who love the ease of apartment living but don’t want to compromise on space or comfort.

The modern apartments range from two to four bedrooms, making them ideal for couples or individuals who want extra room for guests, hobbies, or even a home office. Each apartment includes a private balcony, offering a lovely spot to relax outdoors, and a secure garage car space for added convenience. It’s a great option for those wanting a low-maintenance home that still feels spacious and inviting.

Yeronga

Yeronga features contemporary two- and three-bedroom apartments that are perfect for those seeking a modern, easy-to-maintain lifestyle. Each home includes a balcony, giving residents their own private outdoor retreat. A secure car space is also included, ensuring convenience whether you still drive or rely on visitors. The apartments’ layout and design are all about comfort and practicality, making it easy to settle in and feel at home. Yeronga is especially well-suited to retirees who value being close to amenities and love the feel of living in a warm, connected community.

Taigum

At Taigum, the accommodation takes a slightly different shape. Instead of apartments, residents can enjoy spacious two- or three-bedroom villas with private terraces. This villa-style living gives the feeling of having your own home, with extra privacy and plenty of room to make it your own. Each villa also comes with a lock-up garage, which is a big plus for those who like a bit more storage or secure parking. This style of living is ideal for retirees who want the independence and feel of a standalone home but with the benefits of being part of a friendly, supportive community.

Location & Proximity to Services and Public Transport

All of our communities are incredibly well-connected in terms of location and proximity to public transport and essential services. We’ll go through each of our villages below a little bit more in detail.

Coorparoo

The Village Coorparoo is conveniently located on Cavendish Road, in the heart of Coorparoo, about 7km from the CBD. This location means residents can enjoy the best of both worlds, peaceful surroundings and a community feel, with all the conveniences of urban city living close at hand.

Major shopping hubs such as Coorparoo Square and Westfield Carindale are just minutes away, as are various public transport options, including buses and the Coorparoo train station. As for culture and community, The Village Coorparoo is surrounded by recreational facilities, including the Pacific Golf Club, the Gabba, and the Coorparoo Bowls Club, as well as various parks, cafes, and restaurants that create a vibrant, welcoming neighbourhood atmosphere.

Due to The Village Coorparoo’s inner-city location, it is well placed for access to high-quality health facilities, with both Greenslopes Private Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital less than a 10-minute drive away.

Yeronga

The Village Yeronga is located a mere 9km south of the Brisbane CBD, just off Hyde Road in the leafy green, tranquil riverside suburb of Yeronga. Living here means you feel like you’re tens of kilometres away from the city, while still being incredibly well connected, with plenty of main roads, your very own train station, and various bus routes to take you where you need to be.

All around Yeronga, and right across from our village, you’ll notice countless green spaces, parks, playgrounds, and walking tracks. The cafe culture here is also robust, with various cafes and bakeries dotted around, not to mention restaurants and takeaway joints that make it easy to enjoy a coffee, a meal, or some socialising with friends. It’s also worth noting The Village Yeronga’s proximity to Queensland Tennis Centre and Yeronga Tennis Club, for active seniors who enjoy hitting a ball with a racquet

The Village Yeronga is also well connected to various health services, with the Princess Alexandra Hospital a mere 6-minute drive away. Nearby shopping hubs such as Fairfield Gardens, Yeronga Village, and Yeerongpilly Green offer everything you need, from groceries and pharmacy essentials to boutique shopping and casual dining, all within a 5-minute drive.

Taigum

The Village Taigum is just one of our two villages on the Northside of Brisbane, and is located right on Roghan Road, approximately 22km from the Brisbane CBD. Taigum itself is a quiet, leafy green suburb that offers its residents a peaceful suburban lifestyle, making it perfect for retirees looking to settle down.

With abundant green spaces and plenty of recreational opportunities, including various bowls and golf clubs, as well as the Brisbane Entertainment Centre and Shorncliffe Pier, locals have endless options to stay active, social, and entertained. In terms of proximity to health facilities, The Village Taigum is well served by nearby hospitals, including The Prince Charles Hospital, Holy Spirit Northside, and St Vincent’s Private Hospital, to name a few.

But how do you get to these places? By train or bus, of course. With North Boondall and Carseldine Train Station a short drive away and a bus station at your doorstop, residents can enjoy easy access to the wider Brisbane area, making commuting, shopping or heading to the city straightforward. Speaking of shopping, there are numerous shopping centres dotted around, including Taigum Village, Taigum Square, and Aspley Hypermarket, offering everything from grocery shops to GP clinics, banks, pharmacies, and so much more.

Lifestyle & Community

Coorparoo and Yeronga, located on Brisbane’s Southside, are closer to the CBD and offer a lively, inner-city vibe. The suburbs themselves are vibrant and bustling, with friendly, sociable communities where neighbours know each other and local events bring people together. Living here means enjoying a dynamic lifestyle that balances the energy of the city with the supportive, close-knit atmosphere of the village community. Here, residents can easily engage with the wider community while also enjoying the comfort, connection, and social opportunities within their village.

In comparison, Taigum, on the Northside, provides a more relaxed, tranquil lifestyle. Nestled in a leafy suburban area, our village blends seamlessly with a peaceful, welcoming wider community. Life here is slower-paced, with a strong sense of belonging and plenty of opportunities to connect with neighbours and the wider community.

If you’re thinking about retirement living and one of our Coorparoo, Yeronga, or Taigum villages feels like it could be the right fit, don’t hesitate to book a tour! It’s the perfect chance to ask questions, explore the village in person, and get a real feel for the community, lifestyle, and what everyday life could be like here.
