The Village Retirement Group welcomes 20,000 new home care packages

Home Care Packages

The Village Retirement Group welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement this week that it will immediately fund 20,000 more home care packages to support older Australians living at home, caving to pressure from across the parliament.

ABC reported on Wednesday 3 September the Coalition, Greens and independents teamed up to demand the Government fund more packages, after new packages were delayed alongside broader reforms from July till November.

The Government had promised 83,000 new packages as part of its broader reforms but following the delay, none were released, adding pressure to a waitlist that had grown from 87,000 in March to 108,000 in July.

Australians living in retirement villages are eligible to receive a home care package, as long as they meet a number of requirements.

Receiving a home care package in retirement living offers significant benefits, including enhanced independence and control, familiar surroundings, personalised care from skilled professionals, flexible services that adapt to changing needs, and peace of mind for both the individual and their family.

These packages provide assistance with daily living, nursing care, and social engagement, enabling seniors to remain in their communities and maintain a high quality of life without the need for relocation to residential aged care facilities.
